This unique and enchanting half-day river, hike, and waterfall adventure is perfect for kayakers of most ages and abilities. Take a two-mile downwind paddle on the gentle Hule‘ia River through the beautiful solitude of the surrounding 241-acre National Wildlife Refuge. Hule’ia is best known as the site for some of Hollywood’s major motion pictures, as well as its legendary Hawaiian Menehune Fish Pond. But it’s also known by locals as a bird sanctuary and a wetland that fed a large tribe of Hawaiians in ancient times.

After your paddle in, hike lush jungle trails through a fern-covered valley to secluded pools and waterfalls. Then, rather than paddling back into the wind, finish your kayak adventure in style with a relaxing ride back on a motorized canoe, taking in the sites of this treasured area.

It’s an off-the-beaten-path experience as there is only one tour provider operating in this valley, which is largely closed to the general public.

Requirements:
Must be able to walk 1.5 miles over uneven terrain on a rainforest trail, and paddle a kayak for 60-90 minutes.
Kayak weight limit 275 lbs per person.

What to Bring:
Wear swimwear under your clothes and bring a windbreaker or light raincoat. Bring footwear with tread for muddy conditions. A sport type sandal with heel straps or aqua socks with tread work great. Also bring a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and snacks

A 72-hour cancellation policy applies for 100% of the ticket price. Cancellations made outside of 72 hours are refundable, less a one-time processing fee of $30

Meeting Point: At the intersection of Niumalu, Wilcox, and Hulemalu Roads- look for the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor sign. Pull in and park in the grass lot on the right. Walk on down 200’ to the Kayak Shack
